Office Light and North Windows
ZZ plants tolerate mild fluorescents and north windows better than most species. Growth in shade is still slow. Treat it as a low light champion, not a closet plant. A south window at one to two meters behind a curtain is plenty; hot sun scorches.
Wait Until the Mix Is Dry
Almost the whole rootball should dry. In low light that means long gaps. Soft yellow stems on wet soil are rhizome rot—unpot and inspect. It wants even less water than a snake plant. Soil-check method: watering.
Gritty Mix
Do not skimp on perlite or pumice. Heavy foliage mix in a large plastic pot kills ZZ plants in winter. Pair soil with pot choice.
Propagation and Safety
Rhizome division in spring is possible but slow. Sap irritates skin and is not pet-safe: pet-safe plants. Very dilute feed only in active growth: fertilizing. In Jaliz, mark low light and terracotta so reminders come later.
